The Phamacy in Your Gut

Did you know that your gut is a pharmacy in your body?

That’s because the microbiomes in our gut, often referred to as  “good bacteria” regulate many of our body functions such as digestion, metabolism, brain function and our immune systems.

Unfortunately many of our lifestyle choices can have an adverse impact on our gut. Everything we eat passes through the gastrointestinal tract. Chemicals from processed foods in our diets and environmental toxins can damage our guts and impair our immune system’s response to threats.

Improving your gut health can have a big impact on boosting your immune system and preventing diseases such as obesity, Alzheimer's and Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome that are related to imbalance of microbiomes.

So how do you improve your gut health and boost your immune system?

Probiotics contain live bacteria and yeasts that keep the gut healthy and balanced. They can be found in yogurt and fermented foods such as kimchi and sauerkraut. It’s also important to eat fiber rich and plant-based foods. Because stress is also linked to poor gut health, engaging in stress reducing activities such as yoga, meditation or relaxing hobbies can also make a big impact.

I also recommend taking a daily probiotic supplement. Fusionary Formulas now carries my personal favorite probiotic Megasporebiotic, which you can order through our website. This is only available through medical providers, but I wanted to share it with all of you. I love this probiotic because the blend aims to recondition the gut with the bacteria that is already there, rather than replacing probiotic strains that do not always survive digestion.
